"Terra Nova Preparation"

This week the students at Hillside Catholic Academy will prepare for the Terra Nova Tests. The students will work on practice activities and take practice tests. This attention to detail is part of the, "quality education," at Hillsdie Catholic Academy.

"St. Jude Math-a-thon"

Today students at Hillside Catholic Academy will attend assemblies about St. Jude Hospital. The students will participate in the Math-a-thon. The students will do Math problems while raising money for this deserving cause. Hillside Catholic Academy's participation in this program is part of the school's mission. It is part of our mission to help the less fortunate. This is part of the, "faith based environment," at Hillside Catholic Academy

"Principal's Seminar"

Today Mr. Michael Butchko, principal of Hillside Catholic Academy, will attend a conference presented by the office of education. Professional development by all the members of the Hillside Catholic Academy staff are important. These conferences help Hillside Catholic Academy provide, "the quality educaiton," at Hillside Catholic Academy.

"A.C.R.E. Testing"

Today students at Hillside Catholic Academy in Grades 5 and 8 will take the A.C.R.E. tests. These tests measure the knowledge the students have in Catholic faith. Hillside Catholic Academy students usually score high on these tests. This is another example of the, "quality education in a faith based environment," at Hillside Catholic Academy.

"Black History Month"

Hillside Catholic Academy will celebrate "Black History Month" with an assembly program today. This program will be conducted by the Honorable Leonard D. Gilbert Council President of the Township of Hillside. He will be joined by the Honorable Jerome Jewell, Jr. They will speak on how every person can become all that God calls them to be.

"Totem Poles"

Mrs Roseann Aagaard's Grade 5 Social Studies class was involved in an intersteing assignment. They created toten poles. This is part of their study of Canada. In Grade 5 students examine the history and culture of Canada and Mexico. The students learn valuable lessons about the nations on our borders. This type of creative assignment is another example of the, "quality education," at Hillside Catholic Academy.

"Flynn and O'Hara Uniforms"

Students at Hillside Catholic Academy wear uniforms created by The Flynn and O'Hara Uniform Company. Today a represenative of the company will be at the school to measure students for the 2008-2009 school year.

"Ash Wednesday"

Today is Ash Wednesday. This day begins the holy season of Lent. Hillside Catholic Academy will attend the 8:00 a.m. Mass at Christ the King Church. The students will receive ashes. Taking part in this liturgy is another example of the, "faith based education at Hillside Catholic Academy."

"Scholarships"

Hillside Catholic Academy is happy to announce the following. Ashley Anthony and Christopher Kurus members of our Grade 8 class have been awarded $1000 scholarships a year for four years. "New Media Center"

Today Hillside Catholic Academy dedicated the Sr. Louise Cababe Media Center. The room is named about Sr. Louise Cababe, O.P. Sr. Louise was the Assistant Superintedent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Newark in charge of testing. The room house 17 computers liked to the Internt. It also contains numerous books for various grade levels. The Cababe Media Center is another exapmle of the, "quality education," at Hillside Catholic Academy.
