"Christmas Drive"

Hillside Catholic Academy recently concluded it's "Annual Hat, Glove, and Scarf Drive." The students collected the following items;
45 Hats
60 Scarves
75 Pairs of Gloves
3 Dozen pairs of socks

"Christmas Concert"

Tongight "The Fifth Annual Hillside Catholic Academy Christmas Concert" will take place. The students will sign various Christmas songs and the evening will conclude with the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. "Altar Servers"

Hillside Catholic Academy is in the process of getting altar servers ready to serve the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Any Roman Catholic student in Grades, 3,4,5,5,6,7, 8 is eligible to participate. These altar servers will assist at First Friday Mass, parish funerals, and various other related activities. This is all part of the, "faith based education," at Hillside Catholic Academy

"Saints Alive"

Today Hillside Catholic Academy conducted, "The Fifth Annual Saints Alive Festival." Members of the 5th grade class dressed and depicted their favorite saints. Their presentations were very informative. This program could not have take place without the efforts of Grade 5 teacher Mrs. Roseann Aagaard. "Election 2008"

On Tuesday October 29 Hillside Catholic Academy conduted a 'mock General Election.' Thanks to the Union County Board of Elections an actual voting machine came to the school. The students were able to cast their votes for the major party candidates for President of the United States. 207 votes were cast. Senator Obama received 177 votes. Senator McCain received 30 votes. An exercise like this is part of the , "quality education," at Hillside Catholic Academy.

"Halloween Party"

On Saturday October 25 Hillside Catholic Academy hosted, "The Fifth Annual Hillside Catholic Academy Halloween Party." This event was possible because of the Hillside Catholic Academy H.S.A. Students in Grades Pre-K, 1,2,3,4,and 5 came in costumes. They played games, trick or treated, ate pizza, and had a great time! "Halloween Dance"

This evening Hillside Catholic Academy conducted "The Second Annual Hillside Catholic Academy Halloween Dance." Over forty 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders danced to the song provided by a DJ from "Prime Entertainers". This event was run by our Grade 7 parents. A great time was enjoyed by all.

"Sr. Joan"

Yesterday Hillside Catholic Academy was visited by Sr. Joan Amelia Ferruggiano S.S.J. Sister Joan is an Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Union County. During her visit Sister Joan visited the classrooms and then met with Mr. Butchko.
The close working relationship between the school and the School Office is another reason Hillside Catholic Academy is able to offer, "a quality education in a faith based environment."

"Fire Prevention Week"

This week to celebrate "Fire Prevention Week" Hillside Catholic Academy was visited by the Hillside Fire Department. Grades K, 1,2, viewed how a fire truck works. Today Hillside Catholic Academy will celebrate St. Francis of Assisi Day. The students have been encouraged to bring in their stuffed animals and pictures of their pets. Friars from the Franciscan Friary in Newark, New Jersey will come to bless the animals and talk about St. Francis. Each year the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Newark are asked to develop a theme for the year. The theme for Hillside Catholic Academy this year is, "Witness to the gospel in thought, word, and deed." We will be living our theme in our worship services, our charity drives, and our actions towards each other. Future Musicians

Hillside Catholic Academy hosted an Assembly. This program was conducted by Mr. Claude Washington the Director of Music. Mr. Washington will conduct the Hillside Catholic Academy orchestra. The various instruments were explained to the students.

"School is now open"

Hillside Catholic Academy is now open for it's 5th year. This year the following changes have been made to our school.
1. A new code of discipline has been put into place.
2. A new schedule has been devised for Grades 6,7,8
3. A new Multipurpose room has been created for Grades 5,6,7,8
4. The gym floor has been taken down to bear wood and refinised
5. The cafeteria face lift has continued.

All of these changes will help Hillside Catholic Academy to continue to provide, "a quality education in a faith based environment."

Today the faculty of Hillside Catholic Academy reports for duty. The faculty of Hillside Catholic Academy consists of dedicated men and women. All are certified teachers in the state of New Jersey or are working towards their certificaiton. The theme of this school year is, "Witness to the gospel in thought, word and deed."

Hillside Catholic Academy will open for school on Wednesday September 5, 2008. Students are to be in full uniform. Students should also bring a snack. Dismissal for Pre-K and Kindergarten students will be at 12:00 p.m. Dismissal for students in Grades 1-8 will be at 12:15 p.m.

"End of the Year"

Hillside Catholic Academy concluded it's Fourth Year of existance on June 13, 2008. This year the members of the Class of 2008 received over $12, 000 in scholarship money. Five members of the Class of 2008 were admitted to the Union County Magnet High School. Summer hours for Hillside Catholic Academy will be from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays strating on June 23. "Chuck E Cheese Night"

Tonight is "Chuck E Cheese Night" at Hillside Catholic Academy. At "Chucky Cheese" Restaurant on Route #22 in Union, New Jersey Hillside Catholic Academy will conduct a fund raising event. A part of the money spend by Hillside Catholic Academy will go back to our school. This is a program from our Home and School Association.

Parent participation is an important part of Hillside Catholic Academy. There are each parent is expected to sell $500 via our fund raising program. Some of your parents exceed their goal. These become members of our "Millennium Club." The members of the "Millenium Club" are those parents who have sold $1,000. These parents were introduced at the last Home and School Assoication Meeting of the year.

On Saturday May 10 the Hillside Catholic Academy Home and School Association conducted, "The Second Annual Hillside Catholic Academy Mother's Day Breakfast." The proceeds of this event went to off set the costs of the Grade 8 class trip. It was a wonderful day attended by over 70 people. "Grade 5 Students D.A.R.E To Be Different"

Grade 5 students at Hillside Catholic Academy complete the D.A.R.E. (Drug Awareness Education). This program is provided by the Hillside Police Department. As part of their program the students submitted essays. According to Detective Wilson, "the quality of the essays at Hillside Catholic Academy were the best of the all the schools submitted." Once again Hillside Catholic Academy students are examples of the,"quality education," at this school.

"Teen Arts Winners"

Recently students from Hillside Catholic Academy participated in the, "Union County Teen Arts Festival." Two of our students did exceptionally well. Partick Roselle, Grade 7, placed Second in the Photography Competition. Brittany Henderson placed First in the Vocal Music Competition. Today our Grade 8 students will put on a presentation of, "The Stations of the Cross." The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ will come alive for the rest of our students. "Future Musicians"

Hillside Catholic Academy conducts it's Music Program with the help of Future Musicians Inc. Students receive one class of vocal music per week. There is also a school choir. Student may receive instrumental music lesson one day per week for a small fee. "Totem Poles"

Mrs Roseann Aagaard's Grade 5 Social Studies class was involved in an intersteing assignment. They created toten poles. This is part of their study of Canada. In Grade 5 students examine the history and culture of Canada and Mexico. The students learn valuable lessons about the nations on our borders. This type of creative assignment is another example of the, "quality education," at Hillside Catholic Academy.

Students at Hillside Catholic Academy wear uniforms created by The Flynn and O'Hara Uniform Company. Today a represenative of the company will be at the school to measure students for the 2008-2009 school year.

"New Media Center"

Today Hillside Catholic Academy dedicated the Sr. Louise Cababe Media Center. The room is named about Sr. Louise Cababe, O.P. Sr. Louise was the Assistant Superintedent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Newark in charge of testing. The room house 17 computers liked to the Internt. It also contains numerous books for various grade levels. The Cababe Media Center is another exapmle of the, "quality education," at Hillside Catholic Academy.

(Sharks and Land Sharks) Students in Grades 4,5,6,7,8 were divided into four teams of fours. The questions were fast and furious. "Spelling Bee"

Hillside Catholic Academy continued celebrating Catholic School's Week with our "Second Annual Spelling Bee." Competition took place between Grades 1,2,3 in one session and Grades 4,5,6,7,8 in another. This event was moderated by Ms. Lynn Zientek, Grade 6,7,8 Language Arts teacher. This event is another example of the, "quality education", at Hillside Catholic Academy.

"Hall of Fame"

On Sunday January 27 Hillside Catholic Academy conducted "The Initial Hillside Catholic Academy Hall of Fame Ceremony". Inducted to the Hall of Fame were the first three valedictorians of the school;
Louise Tonic Class of 2005
Kathryna Corpuz Class of 2006
Joseph Canna Class of 2007
The pictures of these students will be hung in the front hallway of the school. The Hall of Fame is an example of the, "quality education in a faith based environement", at Hillside Catholic Academy.

"Catholic Schools Week"

Catholic Schools Week will begin at Hillside Catholic Academy on Saturday January 26 at the 5:30 p.m. Mass at Christ the King Church. Hillside Catholic Academy students will be in the chior, present the readings, be part of the Offetroy Procession, and be altar servers. This is all part of the, "faith based enviornment," at Hillside Catholic Academy.

"Generous Gift"

"Progress Reports Trimester Two"

Progress Reports for the Second Trimester will be issued on Sunday January 27. These will be given during our "Open House". Progress Reports are delivered three times a year and are valuable tool. "Early Childhood"

Hillside Catholic Academy is expanding it's Early Childhood Program. Starting in September 2008 three year olds will now be admitted. "Too Good For Drugs"

Hillside Catholic Academy Grade 6 students are taking part in a new program this year named, "Too Good For Drugs." This program is provided by Catholic Community Services. "Too Good For Drugs," builds upon the lessons the students learned in Grade 5 from "D.A.R.E." Extra classes such as these are all part of the, "quality education", at Hillside Catholic Academ

"Boys Basketball"

Last night our Boys Basketball team opened the 2007-2008 season. Basketball is offered as an activity for any student in Grades 4, 5,6,7,8. Among the other activities offered are, Forensics, Choir, and Yearbook. Today at our First Friday Mass we will celebrate the, "Feast of Three Kings". This presentation will be put on by our Grade 7 students. This is a new event at Hillside Catholic Academy. This traditional Roman Catholic celebration is a part of the, "faith based environment," at Hillside Catholic Academy.

"The New Year"

As Hillside Catholic Academy enters the year 2008 many plans are in place. The school will work towards Middle States certification. With a new computer room we will strive to be a "Power School" in 2008. In late January we will open our Hall of Fame. A new school musical is coming in the spring. All of these are part of the, "quality education," at Hillside Catholic Academy.
